BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball needed just seven innings on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of Maine with a 10-0, run-rule victory. The Owls have won five straight going into a midweek matchup with UCF on Tuesday.
THE BEGINNING
After a walk-off win on Saturday, Sunday’s finale could not match the drama. The Owls opened the scoring with bases loaded ground out in the second inning. Saturday’s hero Christian Adams made it 2-0 in the third with an RBI single.
THE TURNING POINT
Sophomore starting pitcher Tyler Murphy was in control on the mound holding the Black Bears scoreless through five innings. The Owls’ offense continued to add to the lead with a John Schroeder RBI single in the fifth inning to make it a 4-0 game.
THE FINISH
It was a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Emilio Gonzalez lined an unconventional double off the glove of the Maine second baseman into right field, scoring Adams and Schroeder in the process. A single by Patrick Ward scored Gonzalez and, after a pitching change, another hit by Jake Millan, and a walk to Jalen Debose, Brando Leroux lined a walk-off two-run single to right field.
