BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball resumes midweek action on Tuesday at home against Miami. This is the second of four meetings between the two sides this season. They’ll square up again twice more in Coral Gables – next Tuesday and April 23.
OWL IN REVIEW
The Owls earned a series victory over Memphis over the weekend to improve to 4-2 in the AAC. After a 2-1 defeat on Thursday in the opener, FAU bounced back with two big offensive outputs. They tied a single game program record with seven home runs on Friday in a 13-5 victory and then clinched the series on Saturday with another runaway 14-3 final.
WHO’S HOT
Emilio Gonzalez was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Gonzalez finished 6-for-13 (.462) in the three-game series against Memphis. In Friday’s victory, he homered twice, doubled, and drove in three runs. He added another pair of RBI in Saturday’s win. For the season, the 6’3″ product of Cape Coral, Fla. and Island Coast HS leads the Owls with 25 runs driven in.The bullpen was stellar again for the duration of the series. In 16 innings across all three games, FAU relievers allowed just one unearned run on eight hits. Senior Danny Trehey and freshman Trey Beard led the way in Saturday’s finale. Trehey struck out four and did not allow a hit in 3.1 scoreless frames while Beard tied a career high with six strikeouts and conceded just two hits.
THE OPPONENT
Miami enters Tuesday at 15-12 overall and 6-6 in the ACC. They dropped two of three to Clemson at home over the weekend.Offensively freshman Daniel Cuvet leads the Hurricanes with nine home runs and 31 RBI. Cuvet homered against the Owls in the first meeting back on March 12.Miami’s projected starter for Tuesday is redshirt freshman Ashton Crowther. Crowther is 0-2 this season with a 5.71 ERA in 17.1 innings. He started against the Owls on March 12, going 3.2 with five runs allowed on six hits.
OPPONENT HISTORY
The home team has won each of the last six matchups in this series dating back to 2022. The Owls took the first meeting this season by a 6-4 final. Emilio Gonzalez drove in three runs, John Schroeder tripled, and Dylan LaPointe homered to power the offense. Danny TreheySteven Andrews, and Braden Ostrander held it down in relief, limiting UM to one run in the final five innings.
