Late WKU Comeback Downs FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FAU softball team dropped a heartbreaker to WKU on Saturday by a final score of 4-2. The Hilltoppers plated all four runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and steal the win against the Owls.

FAU (17-17, 5-3 C-USA) scored in the first inning for the second game in a row. Sara Berthiaume drove an opposite field home run to left center that bounced off the top of the wall to give FAU an early 2-0 lead. The round-tripper was the second of the year for the FAU left fielder.

That lead held up all the way until the seventh inning. FAU starting pitcher Donnie Gobourne held the Hilltoppers’ attack at bay through the first six, allowing only two hits while shutting out WKU.

The Hilltoppers came alive in the seventh inning and put together a two-out rally. Down to their last strike, Taylor Davis poked a single to right field to tie the game at 2-2. After a walk, Brylee Hage put WKU in front with a two-RBI double.
