APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR ORANGE BOWL BEIGEL-FEIS-HIXON VALOR AWARD AND SCHOLARSHIP

Miami Lakes, FL (www.orangebowl.org— The Orange Bowl Committee is currently accepting applications for its Beigel-Feis-Hixon Valor Award. The annual award is given in honor and memory of Marjory Stoneman Douglas coaches Scott Beigel, Aaron Feis and Chris Hixon who sacrificed their own safety and lives to protect their students, colleagues and classmates in the tragic mass shooting at the school in 2018.
It includes a $10,000 scholarship, distributed over four years, contingent upon the student- athlete remaining in good standing with his or her corresponding college or university.
The award is designed to salute an outstanding South Florida student-athlete exhibiting valor and courage in the face of adversity, and is open to all Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County graduating senior student-athletes who meet the following requirements:

  1. Identifiable actions, which clearly demonstrate extraordinary courage or commitment
  2. Must not be receiving a full athletic scholarship
  3. Minimum overall 2.5 GPA
  4. The person must have exemplified the strength of human spirit by demonstrating one or more of the following five attributes of courage:
  • Choosing to act in the face of adversity
  • Compassion
  • Standing up for principles and values
  • Expanding one’s horizons beyond the familiar
  • Persevering through suffering with dignity or faith

The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. May 15, 2020About the Orange BowlThe Orange Bowl is a 380-member, primarily-volunteer non-profit sports organization that promotes and serves the South Florida community. With its primary mission since being created in 1935 to bring tourism to South Florida through an annual football game and events, it has also maintained a legacy of charitable contributions and community outreach. Orange Bowl community outreach efforts are comprised of four pillars: youth sports, fundraising and community events, academic programs and scholarships, and legacy gifts.
