Andy Kennedy Era Begins Wednesday when UAB Hosts Alcorn State

BIRMINGHAM – The Andy Kennedy era of UAB Basketball begins on Wednesday afternoon when the Blazers open the2020-21 season against Alcorn State at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is at 2:30 p.m.
 
UAB AND ALCORN STATE HISTORY  
The teams have met seven times in a series that began on Nov. 28, 1989, with UAB winning all seven meetings. In that inaugural contest, Kennedy scored 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
The Blazers average 87 points per game against the Braves with a margin of victory of 27.4 points. UAB has reached the century mark three times in the series. The last game between the two teams was Dec. 18, 2018 – a 76-49 UAB victory.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST ALCORN STATE
Jalen Perry notched his sixth straight game scoring in double figures and finished the contest with 17 points on Dec. 18, 2019.
 
UAB IN SEASON-OPENERS   
Wednesday marks the 43rd season of UAB basketball. In season-opening games, the Blazers are 28-14, winning their last four lid-lifters.

The Blazers are 60-26 all-time when facing schools located in Mississippi.

AK IN SEASON-OPENERS
Kennedy is 12-1 in his season-opening contests. The only setback was at the beginning of the 2014-15 season when Ole Miss fell to eventual Big South champions Charleston Southern. However, the Rebels earned an NCAA berth and advanced into the second round after defeating BYU in the First Four.

Kennedy is a perfect 14-0 against team from the SWAC including a 1-0 record against Alcorn State.

Blazer men’s basketball games are set to air on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 with David Crane and Murry Bartow on the call.

In addition, David Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday during Conference USA play. The show will take place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and feature men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.

The nine-episode show, which will air from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., begins Jan. 5. Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @BlazersLIMGC.
