Andrew Luck’s Retirement

By Damon Knight

With the NFL season just one week away, one of the leagues best players has called it quits after just 7 seasons. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, 29, is retiring from the NFL due to mental and physical punishment both his mind and body has suffered throughout the past 4 years. This sudden news has put the NFL world and its fans in a frenzy. The NFL first heard of Luck’s decision on Saturday, just before the end of the Indianapolis Colts’ preseason game against the Chicago Bears. ESPN and NFL reporter Adam Schefter filed to ESPN:

Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.”

The tweet left so many Colt’s fans in disarray that they openly booed him in the last seconds of the game and as he was walking off Lucas Oil Field for the last time in his professional career. When asked about the booing he heard after the game Luck said, “It hurt. I’ll be honest. It hurt.” Luck went onto say about his decision to retire that it was, “the hardest decision of my life.” The 2012’s number one pick has been rehabbing from a strained calf that developed into a high-ankle sprain since start of April. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg compared to the laundry list of injuries Luck has suffered throughout 7 season. According to Zack Keefer of The Athletic says, “Physical toll on Andrew Luck through 6 NFL seasons: Torn cartilage in 2 ribs, partially torn abdomen, a lacerated kidney that left him peeing blood, at least 1 concussion, a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and this mysterious calf/ankle issue that led to this.”
