tournament begins in a month
The American Conference softball tournament is under a month away, set to begin May 6 in Greenville, North Carolina. All ten teams will make the tournament with teams vying for their seeds over the final weeks of the season.
SEEING DOUBLE
American teams have turned defense into a weapon this season, particularly when it comes to double plays. Four programs rank among the nation’s top 15 in total double plays, led by Charlotte and South Florida, who are tied for third with 27. UAB and UTSA also check in among the leaders, tied for 13th nationally with 20.
ERROR-FREE
Continuing the defensive trend, five American teams rank among the nation’s top 50 in fielding percentage. South Florida leads the way at ninth nationally (.980), followed by Florida Atlantic at 13th (.978). UAB checks in at 27th (.974), with Wichita State (33rd, .973) and East Carolina (45th, .972) also earning spots among the national leaders.

Four American Conference teams appear in the top 65 of the latest RPI rankings, led by South Florida at No. 41. Florida Atlantic follows at No. 51, while Charlotte (No. 56) and Wichita State (No. 65) round out the group.
