American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 3

FIVE TEAMS UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY

Through the first two games of the season, four teams are 2-0 on the year in The American. UTSA, North Texas, Temple and South Florida have all won their first two games, while Memphis is 1-0 in their lone conference game.

SOUTH FLORIDA WINS IN OVERTIME

South Florida battled Charlotte to a 69-68 overtime victory on Wednesday. Guard Sammie Puisis hit the game tying jumper with 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime before hitting the game-winning free throw with three seconds remaining in overtime to clinch the victory.

TIGERS 1-0 IN AMERICAN FOR FIRST TIME

The Memphis Tigers defeated Wichita State 93-83 on Wednesday to win their conference opener for the first time since joining The American.  It marks the first time since the 2011-12 season that the Tigers have started conference play 1-0. DeeDee Hagemann had an impressive 16 point, 12 assist performance in the win.

OWLS, BULLS FACE OFF

Two of the four 2-0 teams in The American will face off on Saturday, January 4 as Temple travels to Tampa to take on South Florida. The Bulls are 8-1 at home this season, but the Owls have been road warriors with a 5-2 record – the best in the conference. Tip off is schedule for 7 p.m ET on ESPN+.

AMERICAN IN THE NET

Three teams in The American are above the rest in the latest NCAA NET rankings. UTSA leads the pack at 57, while South Florida comes in at 70 and Temple is at 91.
