American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – February 7

COMPETITIVE BALANCE

Through ten games in The American, has been as competitive as any league. Eight of the 14 teams in The American are within one game of first place.  North Texas, Tulsa and UAB are tied for first at 7-3, while East Carolina, South Florida, Charlotte, Rice and Temple are all 6-4 in league play.

AMERICAN SHOWCASE

This week’s American Showcase will be a National Girls and Women in Sports Day special. The game will feature Rice at South Florida, with both teams just one game out of first place in The American.  The broadcast will also feature an all-female lead producer, director, play-by-play, analyst, and two sideline reporters.

GOLDEN HURRICANE MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE TIE

Tulsa came away with an important win over North Texas on Sunday, defeating the Mean Green 79-74 inside the Donald W Reynolds Center in Tulsa. The win moved Tulsa into a three-way tie for first place in The American with UAB and North Texas. Delanie Crawford (31 pts) and Temira Poindexter (20 pts) combined for 65 percent of Tulsa’s points in the win.

STINGY DEFENSE

The American features four schools ranked in the Top 50 of the NCAA in field goal percentage defense.  UTSA leads the way at 22nd, followed by Tulsa (27th), North Texas (32) and South Florida (47).

THE AMERICAN IN THE NET

North Texas (87) sits atop the NET rankings in The American. East Carolina (102) and South Florida (105) have steadily increased their rankings, while Rice (107) and Temple (110) are just behind.
