American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – February 21

TEMPLE RISES TO TOP OF THE STANDINGS

With Temple’s victory on Monday night, the Owls are tied for first place in the American Athletic Conference standings. The last time Temple led its conference standings this late in the season was during the 2011-12 season. The Owls have won five of their last six games, with their lone loss coming in double overtime on February 4 at Charlotte.

JENKINS RETURNS FOR UTSA

Senior forward and 2023 C-USA Player of the Year Jordyn Jenkins returned to the lineup for the Roadrunners last week and promptly made an impact. She scored 29 points in just her third game to help UTSA take down first place North Texas and hand the Mean Green their first home loss of the season.

FIRST TO 20

North Texas looks to be the first team in The American to reach 20 total wins this season. At 19-5 on the year, they need just one more win. They would be the first Mean Green squad to hit the 20-win total since 2001-02 when they went 21-9.  It would be just the fourth 20-win season in program history.

MCNEAL APPROACHING STEALS MILESTONE

East Carolina graduate guard Danae McNeal has made a career on the defensive side of the ball, becoming one of the best defenders in American Athletic Conference history. She needs just one more steal to become just the 14th player in conference history to reach 200 career steals. Over her three-year career at East Carolina, she is averaging 2.8 steals per game, including 3.3 steals per game this season.
