American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – Nov. 21

SMU WINS THE AMERICAN

With a sweep over North Texas last weekend, the SMU Mustangs clinched the outright championship for The American.  It marks their third American Athletic Conference title and first since 2016. At 17-1, SMU earns the automatic qualifier for the conference for the NCAA tournament. The selection show is Sunday, November 26 at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.

BULLS CLINCH SHARE OF EAST DIVISION

South Florida used a split with Florida Atlantic over the weekend to clinch a share of the East Division. The Bulls will have a chance to win the division outright with a win over Rice on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC EYES SHARE OF EAST

Florida Atlantic still has a chance to share a piece of the East Division Championship.  Sitting one match back of South Florida, the Owls will need to defeat Tulane on Wednesday and have Rice beat South Florida.

CASSADAY AMONG NATION’S LEADERS

With one match remaining in the season, Tulsa’s Kayley Cassaday sits in the top five of the NCAA in multiple offensive categories. The graduate student is second in the NCAA in kills (575), points (618), and attacks (1,593) and ranks third in kills per set (5.18) and fourth in points per set (5.57).

AMERICAN IN THE RPI

Five American schools are in the Top 100 of the NCAA RPI rankings as of October 29.  SMU leads the way at 25, followed by Rice (58), Wichita State (61), North Texas (93) and South Florida (99).
