American Athletic Conference Softball Release – April 12

OWLS PULL AHEAD

Florida Atlantic used a series win over Charlotte in the Queen City to take a two-game lead in The American. With a 12-3 record in conference play, the Owls hold a two-game lead over Tulsa and North Texas, but an important match up looms this weekend as Florida Atlantic will travel to Denton to take on the Mean Green.

BULLS TAKE DOWN NO. 9 FLORIDA
For the first time since 2012, South Florida defeated Florida in Gainesville.  The Bulls took down the ninth ranked Gators behind a six-run fifth inning, with Bailey Drapola starting the scoring with a two RBI single. American Pitcher of the Week Payton Dixon tossed the complete game, striking out five Gators and picking up her 15th win on the season. It marks the Bulls first win over a top-10 team since 2022, when they defeated No. 7 Oklahoma State 7-1.

The two top hitting teams in the conference will face off in Tulsa this weekend as East Carolina travels for a three-game series against the Golden Hurricane.  Tulsa leads the league and ranks 20th in the NCAA in batting average at .324, while the Pirates are second in The American and 22nd in the NCAA with an average of .323. The game will also feature two players batting over .400 – East Carolina’s Emma Jackson (.427) and Tulsa’s Imani Edwards (.411). The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
