Four teams remain undefeated in American Athletic Conference play. SMU, Charlotte, and FIU each have six points and sit at 2-0, while Tulsa has three points and holds a 1-0 record in The American. SMU has a bye week, but Charlotte, FIU and Tulsa will look to continue their undefeated marks this weekend. The 49ers host Temple, while FIU will host South Florida on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+. Tulsa will host UAB on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Goalkeepers On The Rise
Heading into the weekend, two American goalkeepers are tied for the fifth most career shutouts in SMU’s Cole Johnson and Tulsa’s Alex Lopez. Both enter the weekend with 14 career shutouts in the goal.

SMU Vaults To No. 2 In The Nation
Sitting at 7-1-1 on the season, the SMU Mustangs have improved to No. 2 in both the United Soccer Coaches Association Top 25 and the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 polls. It ties the highest ranking for an American team in conference history – Tulsa reached No. 2 in the final regular season poll of 2021. It is also the highest ranking for SMU since Oct. 15, 2019, when they were ranked No. 3.
Charlotte Shutouts
The Charlotte 49ers defense has proven to be one of the best in the country this season. They have record three straight shutouts and haven’t allowed a goal in league play. They currently rank 4th in the NCAA in shutout percentage having four shutouts in six games (.667).
