Memphis is up two spots to No. 19 in the latest AP Top 25 and up five places to No. 20 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.

MEMPHIS LEADING NATION IN KEY WINS

After earning a Quad 2 victory with a 68-64 home win over North Texas on January 5, Memphis leads Division I in Quad 1 and Quad 2 victories with 10. No other team has nine such victories, while four schools have eight Q1 and Q2 wins.

POURING IN THE POINTS

UTSA’s Primo Spears became the sixth player in conference history to score 40 points in a game, dropping 40 against Tulsa on January 7.

Spears moved up to third in Division I in scoring with 22.4 points per game, while Memphis’ PJ Haggerty is fourth in Division I with 22.2 points per contest.

Haggerty has 990 total points in two seasons at Tulsa and Memphis. With 10 more points, he will become the 57th player to reach 1,000 points while playing in The American.

CLAMPING DOWN ON DEFENSE

North Texas ranks sixth in Division I in scoring defense at 58.7 points per game allowed. The Mean Green lead The American in turnover margin at +3.8 per contest.

ON THE RUN

UAB is second in Division I with 19.44 fastbreak points per game. UTSA is seventh with 17.36 points per game on the break, partly due to averaging 10.1 steals per game, which ranks 11th in Division I.

FROM DOWNTOWN

Memphis is fifth in Division I in 3-point percentage at 41.1 percent, led by Tyrese Hunter, who leads The American and is 15th in D1 at 45.3 percent.

GETTING TO THE LINE

UTSA has converted 81.8 percent of their free throws this season, third in Division I. Charlotte and Temple have made 19.5 free throws per game, 11th and 12th in Division I.

Memphis’ PJ Haggerty has made the most free throws in Division I this season with 110 and ranks fourth in attempts at 134. Charlotte’s Nik Graves ranks 12th with 94 free throws made and eighth in attempts (125). North Texas’ Atin Wright is shooting 93.6 percent, eighth in Division I.
