American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game To Be Televised On ABC For Ninth Consecutive Season

IRVING, Texas – The 2023 American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game will be televised on ABC for the ninth consecutive season, as announced Monday by the conference and ESPN.

The 2023 American Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. ET. ABC has televised The American Championship Game each year since the game’s inception in 2015.

Three teams – Tulane, SMU and UTSA – remain in contention for the two spots in the championship game, as all three take 7-0 conference records into the final week of regular-season play. The winner of Friday’s matchup between UTSA and Tulane (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC) will clinch a spot in the championship game, while SMU would clinch a spot with a win against Navy Saturday (noon ET, ESPN2).

The American is the only FBS conference with three unbeaten teams in conference play entering the final week and is one of only two leagues (along with the Big Ten) that will have two conference-unbeatens against each other this week.

The American Athletic Conference champion has advanced to either the College Football Playoff or a New Year’s Six bowl seven times in the first nine seasons of the College Football Playoff era.
