American Athletic Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 8.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jamison Wheeler, So., OH, SMU

Wheeler had a dominant week for the Mustangs, averaging 5.79 points per set to help SMU go 2-0 with wins over Charlotte and Florida Atlantic. She had a week-high 21 kills on .333 hitting percentage in the 3-1 win over the Owls, while adding 15 kills in the sweep of Charlotte.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sina Uluave, Gr., DS/L, SMU

Uluave anchored the Mustangs defense, averaging 5.14 digs per set. She had 15 digs in the sweep of Charlotte and added 21 against Florida Atlantic. 

Weekly Honor Roll

Angeles Alderete, So., OH, East Carolina

Alderete finished the week with 4.57 points per set, while hitting .275 across a pair of wins against Tulane and North Texas.

Nia McCardell, Sr., L, Rice

McCardell anchored the Rice defense, averaging 4.63 digs per set in wins against Memphis and Charlotte.

Emilia Weske, Gr., RS, Rice

Weske averaged 4.25 kills per set on .282 hitting. She had a weekend-high 25 kills and 11 digs at Charlotte.

Kayley Cassaday, Gr., OH, Tulsa

Cassaday averaged 5.567 points per set, while hitting .295 . She let the Golden Hurricane to a win over UAB with 16 kills and nine digs.

Sophia Rohling, Sr., OPP, Wichita State

Rohling guided the Shockers to a 2-0 week, averaging 4.33 points per set on .442 hitting. In the win over Temple, se had 15 kills and hit .522 for the match.
