American Athletic Conference Announces Softball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 17.

Player of the Week

Ella Chancey, Jr., INF, Charlotte

Chancey led the 49ers to a 4-0 week with a sweep over Memphis and a midweek victory over No. 18 Virginia Tech. Chancey hit .727 with a slugging percentage of 1.455. She scored seven times and knocked in five more runs.

Pitcher of the Week

Mackenzie Childers, So., North Texas

Childers tossed two complete games for the Mean Green, finishing the week with a 1.17 ERA across 18.0 innings pitched. In three games, she struck out 26 batters, including 13 in the complete game win over UTSA.

Weekly Honor Roll

Kiley Channell, Fr., INF, Florida Atlantic

In the sweep over UAB, Channell went 5-for-9 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored.

Kalei Christensen, Sr., C, North Texas

Christensen helped the Mean Green earn a series win over UTSA, going 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored in the two wins.

Anneca Anderson, Fr., P, Tulsa

Anderson threw a complete-game shutout against South Florida, allowing just one hit in the 3-0 victory.

Kailyn Bearpaw, Jr., RF, Tulsa

Bearpaw held a slugging percentage of .818, batting 5-for-8 in wins over South Florida and Iowa State.

CC Wong, Sr., INF, Wichita State

Wong hit .611 at the plate, scoring eight times and knocking in another four runs in wins against Kansas and East Carolina.
