American Athletic Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 31.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Nick Scudder, Sr., Charlotte

Scudder set a new Charlotte program record in the 5,000 meter run, finishing the race in 13:34.76.  The time is also the fifth fastest in the NCAA this season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Brady Palen, Sr., Wichita State

Palen recorded a Top 10 jump nationally in high jump a the Wichita State Shocker Spring Invitational, clearing 2.17 meters. His mark is the top in The American and 9th in the NCAA.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Joyasia Smith, So., Charlotte

Smith blazed to a podium finish in the 200-meter dash at the Pepsi Florida Relays, finishing in 22.91 seconds.  It is the top time in The American and 5th best in the NCAA.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Laura Fodor, So., Tulane

Fodor finished with a personal best point total at the Bobcat Invitational & Multi, ending the meet with 5,092 points. Her point total is the 16th best in the NCAA this season.
