American Athletic Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 24.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Ben Tijerina, So., Rice

Tijerina ran a personal best in the 10,000-meter run at the Victor Lopez Classic, finishing with a time of 30:35.09.  His time is the fastest in The American and 4th fastest in the NCAA.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Zion Hill, Gr., North Texas

Hill set a North Texas school record in the Javelin with a distance of 74.95 meters.  His throw is the best in The American and the 7th best in the NCAA.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Melicia Mouzzon, Sr., East Carolina

Mouzzon finished in first place at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.38 seconds. It’s the fastest in The American and 8th fastest in the NCAA.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Alice Taylor, So., Rice

Taylor set a Rice school record in the high jump at the Victor Lopez Classic, clearing a height of 1.83 meters.  It is the best jump in The American and 3rd best in the NCAA.
