IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, May 4.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Jr., South Florida
Saminu continued his strong season with a first place finish at the UNF East Coast Relays in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.06 – the 17th fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Vincent Ugwoke, Sr., North Texas
Ugwoke set a new program record in the discus with a mark of 63.72 meters. His new mark is the 5th best in the NCAA this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Amaya Hopkins, So., Charlotte
Hopkins set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.78 seconds. The time is the 37th best in the NCAA this season.
Women’s Field Athletes of the Week
Rachela Pace, Sr., UTSA
Pace set a new outdoor career-best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.29 meters. It is the second best in UTSA history and 11th-best in the nation this season.
