American Athletic Conference Announces Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, February 18.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Jaleel Montgomery, Jr., Wichita State

Running at the Arkansas Qualifier on February 16, Montogomery ran a 7.89 60-meter hurdle. The junior has the top time in The American this season in the event.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Jake Soorus, Sr., Charlotte

Soorus took first place in shot put at the USC Indoor Open in Columbia, South Carolina on February 17. The senior threw 17.52 meters to win the event and currently holds the top throw in The American.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Sophia McNerney, So., Tulane

McNerney earned a pair of podium finishes at the LSU Twilight on February 16 in Baton Rouge. She took first place in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:01.50, while earning second place in the 800-meter run at 2:14.64.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Riley Felts, R-Sr., Charlotte

For a third time this season, Felts broke her own program and American Athletic Conference record in Pole Vault. She cleared a height of 4.46 meters, the third best mark in the country heading into the 2024 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
