Allen Tabbed C-USA Newcomer of the Year

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Iggy Allen of the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball (10-10, 8-8 in Conference USA) has earned the title of C-USA Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the league Tuesday. This marks the first individual superlative award for the Owls in the program’s history of belonging to C-USA, and first since the 2011-12 season.
 
Allen, a graduate transfer from the University of Miami, has not wasted any time making her presence felt in the league. She is averaging a double-double with 22.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, while adding 47 steals, and 47 assists. Allen has led the team in points in all but four games and has notched double digits in scoring in all 20 contests. Of those, 11were  20-point games, and three were 30-point performances, along with 10 10+-rebound games. Allen has tallied 10 double-doubles.
 
Among C-USA players, the Pompano Beach, Florida native sits second in scoring and defensive rebounding (8.2) and third in rebounding, as well as fourth in steals (2.4) and 3-pointers per game (2.5). She is also ranked nationally in several categories with the most notable being in scoring (13th), defensive rebounding (16th) and rebounding (22nd).
 
Allen was named to the C-USA All-Conference First Team and Defensive Team on Monday. She is also a two-time C-USA Player of the Week this season, while becoming the first Owl to receive more than one C-USA weekly award in their career 
 
The South Florida product is the first Owl in the program’s days of belonging in C-USA to win a major postseason award. She is also the first since Teri Stamps was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year following the 2011-12 season.
 
Allen and the Owls are en route to Frisco, Texas for the 2021 Air Force Reserve C-USA Women’s Basketball Championships. FAU will play the winner of the West Division play-in game between sixth-seeded UAB versus seventh-seeded UTSA on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
