Allen Receives Second C-USA Player of the Week TItle

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Iggy Allen of the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team has earned her second Conference USA Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league Monday. She previously earned her first title on Feb. 8.

In a busy week of games for the Owls, Allen kicked it off with 15 points and four boards to close out the UTEP series last Monday. She followed up that performance with 33 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and three steals against Southern Miss in Friday’s 78-63 win. In Friday’s game, she literally could not miss in the first half, shooting 8-8 from the field and finishing the game going 13-17. Allen also matched a career-high five 3-pointers after shooting 5-6 from beyond the arc. Her 30-piece was her second of the season and double-double marked her ninth of the year.

Allen finished the weekend’s series with 17 points and seven rebounds in the Owls’ 86-61 victory over the Lady Eagles for the sweep. She also added three assists and only played 20 minutes in that game.

The Pompano Beach, Florida native averaged a near double-double over the three-game stretch with 21.7 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game. She also posted percentages of 51.1% from the field, 50.0% from the 3-point line and 83.3% from the charity strike.

Allen is positioned as the second best scorer (22.2 PPG) and rebounder (11.2 RPG), while coming up with the fourth most steals (2.5 SPG) in C-USA. She is nationally ranked in several categories, including 13th in points per game, 17th in defensive rebounds per game (8.3), 21st in rebounds per game and 27th in field goals made (154) among all NCAA players.

This marks the first time in the Owls’ days of belonging to C-USA that the same player has been awarded C-USA Player of the Week in the same season. She is also the first player to win more than one weekly C-USA award in their career.

FAU’s 2020-21 regular season home slate has come to a close, as the Owls finished 7-2 at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena. The Owls’ last and final regular season matchup is at Charlotte next week on March 5 and 6, both with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
