ALL-STAR JORGE SOLER NAMED MIAMI MARLINS ROBERTO CLEMENTE NOMINEE

MIAMI – Major League Baseball announced that Jorge Soler was named the Miami Marlins 2023 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One, baseball’s most prestigious individual honor for Major Leaguers.

The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

As part of the annual program, each MLB Club nominates one player to be considered for the league-wide Award in tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character.

Jorge Soler, this year, earned his first career selection to the Midsummer Classic, but has been an All-Star in the South Florida community for many years. The Havana, Cuba native has displayed tremendous support for Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Hospital by donating to their heroic efforts in caring for ailing children in the Miami area. Soler’s commitment to this group has carried through the entire season, as he continues to host patients from the hospital and their families for a VIP experience at loanDepot park.

Jorge, who looks to become the Marlins first ever Roberto Clemente Award winner, has also been active in the Miami Marlins Foundation programs. He attended the Opening Day of the Miami Marlins Youth Academy Spring Tee Ball Initiative presented by Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital and the Marlins’ Great Minds – Great Athletes Panel at John A. Ferguson High School. Since joining the organization prior to the 2022 season, Jorge has demonstrated his passion for giving back to the children of South Florida and making a Marlins Impact in his home community as he raises his family here.

Friday, September 15th marks the 22nd annual Roberto Clemente Day presented by Capital One, which was established by Major League Baseball to honor Clemente’s legacy as a humanitarian and to formally acknowledge Club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award. Beginning today, fans can vote for the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One at MLBTogether.com/Clemente21 (in both English and Spanish).

The Marlins will recognize Soler during a pre-game ceremony on September 15 at loanDepot park, as the organization will celebrate Roberto Clemente Day. To join the celebration of Soler and Clemente, fans can visit Marlins.com/Tickets.
