The Gators defeated Georgia Southern 6-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. UF now posts a 3-2 record heading into SEC play.
STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 21 Gators defeated Georgia Southern 6-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. The win over the Eagles marks UF’s third non-conference victory of the 2025 season. Florida now stands at 3-2, 0-0 SEC heading into conference play.
The Gators took an early advantage over Georgia Southern, securing the doubles point with wins coming from Rachel Gailis<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/rachel-gailis/16981>/ Bente Spee<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/bente-spee/16983> and Nikola Daubnerova<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/nikola-daubnerova/16984>/ Talia Neilson-Gatenby<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/talia-neilson-gatenby/17074>. In total, UF only dropped three games in the doubles category to the Eagles.
The freshman duo of Daubnerova and Neilson-Gatenby posted the first doubles win, dominating Hannah Eifert and Franzi Heinemann with a 6-0 final score. Court No. 1 followed as Gailis and Spee defeated Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman 6-3.
Gailis carried her momentum forward to tally UF’s first singles win of the day. Gailis defeated Juliette Nask fairly quickly with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court No. 1. Spee followed suit on court four, taking down Leopold 6-1, 6-2.
Oliveras solidified UF’s team win, tallying their fourth point of the afternoon. After being down in the first set, Oliveras found a way to even the score at 6-6. Her comeback effort didn’t stop there as she pulled out a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker. Oliveras maintained composure against Amelie Rosadoro in the second set to close out 7-6(5), 6-2.
Florida played out the remaining courts, posting an additional two singles wins. Neilson-Gatenby defeated Rinman 6-2, 7-6 to earn UF’s fifth point of the day and Daubnerova won 6-7, 6-5, 10-5 against Heinemann to conclude play in Statesboro.
Georgia Southern’s only point of the contest was in result of a singles walkover on court six.
