American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 24

ROADRUNNERS STAND ALONE

Eight games into conference play and the UTSA Roadrunners stand alone in first place as the final undefeated team in conference action at 8-0. UTSA won their only game of the week, defeating Tulsa 64-53. The Roadrunners will play again next Wednesday, January 29 at South Florida.

HITTING THE GLASS

American teams have shown the ability to rebound among the best in the country this season. Seven of the top 100 teams in rebounding are in The American.  Florida Atlantic is 31st with 41.2 rebounds per game, followed by Tulane (35th, 40.9), Rice (38th, 40.8), UTSA (50th, 40.5), East Carolina (67th, 39.6), Tulsa (95th, 38.8) and North Texas (96th, 38.7)

JOYNER ENTERS TOP 20 IN REBOUNDS

With 11 rebounds in the game against Temple on Wednesday night, Amiya Joyner moved into the Top 20 for career rebounds in The American. She is ranked 20th with 772 career rebounds and is the first Pirate to be in the Top 20.

‘RUNNERS WINNING STREAK

After winning their 10th straight game on Wednesday, UTSA now holds the 9th longest winning streak in the nation. It marks their first 10-game winning streak since 2007-08. They have also won 11 straight home games – the 22nd longest streak in the nation.

AMERICAN IN THE NET

Three teams rank in the Top 100 of the current NET rankings with UTSA leading the pack at 65.  South Florida is just behind at 67, while Temple made the leap into the Top 100 at 92.
