UF T&F: Wiley Qualifies for 200m Finals on Day Three in Lima

The blue-chip sprints recruit has announced his presence on the world stage just before his freshman campaign at Florida.

LIMA, Peru – Day three of the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships saw three Gators compete, including a standout effort by Freshman Jaden Wiley which landed him in the Finals for the 200m.

Wiley, The U.S. U20 100m and 200m champion, has announced his presence on the world stage, flying to the 200m Final in dominant fashion. After a disappointing showing in the 100m heats on day one, Wiley stormed back in the 200m heats, posting the second-best time of the field with a 20.93 mark. He backed up that herculean effort with another strong showing in the Semifinal round, winning his Semifinal heat with a time of 21.04. He will compete in the men’s 200m Final tomorrow at 7:47 p.m. ET.

Habiba Harris, the Jamaican 100m Hurdles recruit set to join the Gators on campus in January, finished second in her initial heat, swiping a spot in the next round with a time of 13.74. In the evening session’s Semifinals, Harris upped her game to a 13.64 mark, good for fourth in her semifinal heat, narrowly missing a ticket to tomorrow’s final.

Gabrielle Schmidt competed in her second race of these championships, racing in heat two of the Women’s 3000m. She finished 11th in her heat, crossing the line with a 9:41.76 time. She wraps up her competition in Lima, and will soon make way for Gainesville, Joining Florida’s Cross Country squad this Fall.
