USF Softball: South Florida Sets Season-High in Win Over Memphis


MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 5, 2024 – The University of South Florida softball team (25-15, 5-8 AAC) set a season-high of 12 runs in its win over the Memphis Tigers (4-28, 1-12 AAC) to open the series on Friday night in Memphis. The Bulls won with a final of 12-1.

South Florida wasted no time getting on the board. After a double from Olivia Eliot (Tampa) and a passed ball from the Tigers, Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) hit a sacrifice fly to score the Bull’s first run.

The Bulls extended their lead by three runs in the third inning with a double, a single, and a walk. Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.) Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg), and Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach) each registered an RBI.

The Tigers threatened to cut the Bull’s lead in half in the fourth inning. A hit-by-pitch and a double put runners in scoring position, but South Florida got out of the inning with a groundout to Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa). Another Tigers’ scoring threat came in the fifth inning, but Tieley Vaughn (Wesley Chapel) snagged a line drive for the out.

The Bulls scored four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 8-0. Two runs were scored on an error by the Tigers, and another on a passed ball. Foreman had her second RBI of the game with an RBI walk.

The Tigers scored one run in the sixth inning. South Florida extended its lead to 12-1 with four runs in the seventh inning.

Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned her 18th start of the season. She pitched five scoreless innings and struck out three batters. Belle Sardja (Gibsonton) pitched the final two innings, earning her fifth save of the season.
