OWLS IN REVIEW The Owls scored in seven of eight innings on Sunday, racking up 18 hits and six home runs in a 24-2 drubbing of FIU. It was the second consecutive Sunday that the bats have come alive to score 20+ runs after a 20-7 win over Stonehill last week. An 11-run third inning was the turning point, featuring grand slams by Jalen DeBose and John Schroeder. Tyler Murphy was nearly perfect for five innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out a career high eight. WHO’S HOT Schroeder and Murphy were named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. The former homered in all three games against FIU including grand slams on both Saturday and Sunday. He leads the Owls with 17 RBI on the season. Murphy’s 1.93 ERA is also team leading. He’s second in strikeouts with 17. The sophomore has settled in as part of a strong starting rotation for the Owls. C.J. Williams (3-0, 3.57 ERA) and Trey Beard (1-1, 4.60) have also been key pieces in the rotation through the first month of the season. Carter Brady homered twice on Sunday as part of a 4-for-4 day at the plate. He has four round-trippers on the season to lead the Owls. THE OPPONENT Miami opened ACC play over the weekend by taking two of three from Virginia. The Hurricanes rallied from a 12-3 deficit on Saturday, scoring six runs in the seventh inning and another seven in the eighth to win 16-12. Freshman infielder Daniel Cuvet has burst onto to the season offensively, leading the Canes in average (.425), home runs (8) and RBI (25). Sophomore Blake Cyr is the reigning ACC Player of the Week after going 8-for-16 with three home runs and 11 RBI in four games last week. Redshirt freshman Ashton Crowther is expected to make his first start on Tuesday. The lefty has appeared in three games so far for a total of 4.1 innings. He’s allowed three earned runs. OPPONENT HISTORY The Owls and Hurricanes split the season series in 2023 with the home team winning each of the four matchups. The south Florida neighbors will meet again in Boca Raton on April 2. The season series shifts to Coral Gables for two matchups on April 9 and 23. UPCOMING The Owls will begin their final non-conference weekend series when Maine comes to town on Friday night. After a trip to UCF next Tuesday, AAC play begins at the FAU Baseball Stadium on March 22 against Charlotte.
