Greenville, N.C., Feb. 20, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (15-12, 7-7) heads to the Old North State for its second regular season pairing with East Carolina (14-10, 7-6) on Wednesday night. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.

SETTING THE STAGE

The Bulls enter Wednesday night as winners of four of their last seven contests. East Carolina was won three of its last five and the Pirates are on a two-game losing skid after losses to Rice and Memphis.

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-EAST CAROLINA SERIES

Wednesday’s meeting will be the 22nd all-time pairing between the two programs, which extends back to the 1984-85 season. South Florida holds a 14-7 all-time advantage in the series and has won 12 straight. The last meeting was a 54-40 Bulls win on Feb. 28, 2024.

LAST TIME OUT

South Florida fell to Florida Atlantic, 67-55, at home on Saturday night. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy (21 points) put up 20 or more points for the eighth time this season and for the third straight game. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt locked in her sixth double-double of the season with a season-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lutje Schipholt’s performance tonight catapulted her into the 1,000-point club. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out a game-best seven assists. Wilson’s seven assists (469 Career Assists) shuffled her past Leslie Vorpahl (Tulane, 2013-17) into the eighth spot on the AAC all-time career total assists list.

BULL LEADERS

Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy leads South Florida with a 14.3 scoring average. Levy has earned AAC Honor Roll four times this season. Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (13.8 ppg.) is the second Bull averaging double-digit points. Blasigh (67 3PM) is second among NCAA Freshman in total 3-pointers made. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt leads on the glass with 8.0 rebounds per contest, which ranks 6th in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 4.5 assists per contest. Wilson’s 122 total assists ranks 2nd in the American. Wilson (469 career assists) is 8th on the all-time AAC Career Total Assists ledger.

AAC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS

For the fourth consecutive year, The American’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Championships expand to 14 teams this season with The Women’s Championship running March 9-13. Ticket packages for the Women’s Championship will be $85 per package. South Florida women’s basketball recorded its 11th 20-win season during the 2022-23 campaign. USF has made 18 postseason tournament appearances and had nine NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 23 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to 11 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, has won over 400 career games, and is the all-time wins leader in the American Athletic Conference.

In 2022-23, the Bulls had four players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elena Tsineke (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Sammie Puisis (AAC Newcomer of the Year, All-Conference Second Team) and Carla Brito (AAC All-Freshman Team).
