Asekol is being recognized for her historic performance in the women’s mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Ma.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Women’s Track & Field athlete Flomena Asekol has been named SEC Co-Runner of the Week, as announced by the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Asekol is being acknowledged for her performance at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational where she competed in the women’s mile.
The senior from Kapenguria, Kenya, knocked eight seconds off of her personal record as she recorded a time of 4:26.47. Not only is this mark good for the second best mark in the NCAA in 2024 and the best in the Southeastern Conference, but stands as the fourth best women’s indoor mile in NCAA history. Her time also set the Kenyan National Record for the women’s mile. Furthermore, Asekol broke the University of Florida school record in the event which had stood for 14 years (4:31.24).
