The honor was awarded for Valby’s NCAA Record run in the 5000m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A sub 15-minute 5000m race was a mark no woman had ever accomplished during collegiate competition, until Parker Valby stepped foot on the track at Boston University for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
Valby’s NCAA record run of 14:56.11 at Boston University has earned her USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s Athlete of the Week honors.
The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 5000m shaved 24 seconds off her personal best time while also topping the previous NCAA indoor record (held by Emily Sisson since 2015) by 16 seconds.
Her time also edged out the outdoor record (15:03.12) by seven seconds which was set by Katelyn Tuohy in 2023.
As she showed during the Cross Country season, Valby has a extra gear that is unmatched. After running the each of the first four 1000m in approximately three minutes, in the final 1000m Valby clocked a 2:52.83, her fastest split of the race.
Valby’s honor marks the third consecutive year that a female athlete from Florida has been named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.
