BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball has announced a 54-game schedule for the 2024 regular season, including 32 at home. After nine seasons in Conference USA, the upcoming campaign will mark the Owls’ first as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
QUOTABLE
Head coach John McCormack
“I’m excited about the 2024 schedule. Obviously with a new conference there will be new opponents, new cities, and new challenges and we’re looking forward to it all.”
STARTING ON THE ROAD
For the first time in more than a decade, the Owls will begin the season with a three-game road trip. Last time it happened back in 2012, FAU opened with a sweep of SEC heavyweight Alabama. This season, the new slate starts on February 16 with a trip to Nashville to play Vanderbilt. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Owls and the Commodores – a team that won 42 games and hosted a regional last season.
SETTLING IN AT HOME
After the opening weekend, the Owls will not leave the state of Florida again until the end of March. They’ll open the home portion of the schedule on February 23 when Towson (19-37 in 2023) visits Boca Raton. Midweek home games with UCF (33-26) and UNF (28-27) close out the month of February.
HEATING UP IN MARCH
March begins with a weekend series against Stonehill College (Mass.) (14-35). The Owls will then head to Gainesville for one game against last year’s national runner-up Florida (54-17). The Gators are one of six opponents on the schedule that qualified for last season’s NCAA Regionals.
FAU will meet crosstown opponent FIU, March 8-10, as non-conference foes for the first time 2006. The Owls will host the first and third games in the home-and-home weekend series with the middle game to be played in Miami. The Owls will travel south for a second time on April 16 to complete the season series.
On the final weekend before the start of conference play, the Maine Black Bears will travel nearly 1700 miles to the FAU Baseball Stadium. The Black Bears won the America East regular season and tournament crowns last season to qualify for their first regional since 2011.
FOUR WITH THE CANES
Florida Atlantic and Miami split the four-game season series in 2023 with the home team winning all four. This year, the sides will match up for the first time on March 12 at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls will also host April 2. Trips to Coral Gables are scheduled for April 9 and April 16.
SOME NEW FACES, SOME FAMILIAR
The Owls’ introduction to the AAC will come on March 22 against a familiar opponent when 2023 C-USA Tournament Champion Charlotte comes to town. Reigning AAC Champion East Carolina and 2023 regional qualifier Tulane as well as former C-USA opponents UAB and UTSA round out the conference home schedule. FAU will venture to Memphis, Wichita State, USF, and Rice for the road portion. The AAC Tournament is set for May 21-26 in Clearwater, Fla.
