GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida right-handed pitcher Hurston Waldrep<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/hurston-waldrep/15517> was honored as the SEC Pitcher of the Week on the heels of his seven-inning gem vs. Georgia, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
While the accolade represents Florida’s fifth weekly SEC award of the season, it is the first-career nod for Waldrep. Waldrep collected SEC Pitcher of the Week honors after firing seven innings of one-run ball on Saturday vs. Georgia as the Gators evened the series against the Bulldogs. The Thomasville, Ga. native did not surrender a base knock until the fifth inning and finished with three hits allowed, three walks and eight strikeouts.
Saturday’s start marked Waldrep’s sixth this season striking out eight or more batters. His 83 strikeouts rank second nationally.
With a 6-1 record on the season, Waldrep leads the Orange & Blue in wins. He owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and .216 batting average against in 52 innings pitched.
