Florida Atlantic Wins in Six

BOCA RATON, Fla. – It took just six innings for the Florida Atlantic University softball team to earn a 9-1 victory over Winthrop Friday evening.

Olivia Peterson was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the second. She slid into second beating out a throw from the shortstop deep in the hole. First baseman Zoey Jones then hit a one-out two RBI double scoring both Peterson and Becca Jones.

Winthrop responded in the top of the third, but the FAU bats would come alive in the bottom half of the inning with six hits and five runs to take a 7-1 lead. That lead would hold through the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Maddie Carlock walked followed by a Cammeo Presutti single to right. The duo then scored on a Jesiana Mora double to right.

Ainsley Lambert threw a complete six-inning game, allowing three hits, the lone earned run, struck out two and walked two to move to 3-1 on the year.
