HOW WE GOT HERE
FAU avenged a regular-season loss to Louisiana Tech with the 4-1 victory on Wednesday evening. Gi Krstec, the C-USA Midfielder of the Year, scored twice early to set the tone and give FAU command of the game. Krstec tallied two goals a mere 40 seconds apart in the ninth minute, with the second one being a floater from well outside the box all the way on the right side. A penalty kick from Hailey Landrus and a goal from Bri Austin sealed the deal for FAU. Defender Luisa Daikeler tallied two assists in the victory, while goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez picked up four saves.
The 49ers pulled out a big upset win by way of a 4-1 tally as well by taking down the No. 1 seed and regular-season champion Rice.
