MIAMI –For the first time since 2017, the UAB women’s soccer team has started the Conference USA season 2-0-0 after its 1-0 victory over FIU on Thursday evening. Overall, the Blazers improve to 5-2-2.
Asha Zuniga’s header off a Claire Rea free kick in the 65th minute was the only goal of the match.
The UAB backline held the Panthers to three shots helping Eve Beyer earn her fourth victory of the season and second clean sheet of the year.
Six of the Blazers’ eight shots were on target and UAB had nine corners to FIU’s two.
The next home match is Sept. 25 versus Florida Atlantic at noon. The Owls (5-3-3, 1-0-1 C-USA) tied UTSA earlier tonight, 1-1.

- Beyer recorded her ninth career shutout, surpassing Lisa Nowoslawski (1998-02) for fifth all-time in program history
- The game was delayed at halftime for 30 minutes due to lightning
- This was Zuniga’s third career game-winning goal
