DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Five races from the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech
SportsCar Championship are part of USA Today’s 10Best Readers’
Choice for North America’s Best Motorsports Race released earlier
today.
The No. 1 selection was the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented
by Advance Auto Parts which is annually the second stop on the
IMSA WeatherTech Championship schedule in March.
IMSA’s yearly stop in Southern California – the Acura Grand Prix
of Long Beach – was fourth on the list followed by the first race of
the year – the Rolex 24 At Daytona – in fifth. The Motul Petit Le Mans
at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, which is the season finale, came
in sixth. IMSA’s annual race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
placed 10th.
“This acknowledgement is the ultimate validation by our fans and
a testament to the hard work we all put in to make sure the
experience they have at our races is always special,” IMSA
President Scott Atherton said. “It goes without saying this
noteworthy achievement is one of the many highlights we can
add to our 50th anniversary celebration.
“I want to congratulate the staffs at these events for being recognized
by their fans as the best of the best,” Atherton added. “Having five
races on this year’s list is evidence of IMSA’s growth not only in
North America, but around the world, as the premier sports car
racing series for fans and competitors.”
IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races have been a
staple among the 10Best in recent years. This list is the second
consecutive year the WeatherTech Laguna Seca race has made
an appearance as it was fifth in 2018. Sebring was fourth in 2017
and sixth in 2015 while the Rolex 24 placed ninth in 2017.
Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of relevant
experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY;

for both these media and other Gannett properties. All voting is
digital, and the 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest is accessible
