Riley Hogan, Austin Bodrato and Alex Bello are all raising their batting average
TAMPA, July 17, 2019 – With a little more than two weeks remaining in the regular season for summer collegiate baseball leagues, a handful of USF baseball players are rising to the occasion.
Summer Ball Bulls
Alex Bello – Danbury Westerners – New England Collegiate Baseball League
Bello continues to raise his average, now batting .295 this summer. He’s riding a three-game hit streak and played in five games last week. Bello went 2-for-3 on July 13 with a home run. He went 2-for-4 on July 9 with a run and a RBI.
Jake Sullivan – Savannah Bananas – Coastal Plain League
Sullivan has played in five of the last seven games for the Bananas. He went 2-for-4 on July 10 with a run and a RBI. He had a RBI double on July 12 and had a hit a scored a run on July 15.
Nick Gonzalez – Peninsula Pilots – Coastal Plain League
Gonzalez has played in has played in five of the last six games. He went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI on July 13 and has recorded four hits over the span. Gonzalez has played in 32 games this summer.
Riley Hogan – Peninsula Pilots – Coastal Plain League
Hogan has done nothing but hit since mid-June. He’s riding a seven game hitting streak and has hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games. Hogan is 10-for-23 (.434) over the last five games with a home run, four RBI and seven runs. He went 2-for-5 with two runs on July 13, 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI on Monday and 3-for-5 on Tuesday. He’s hitting .402 since recording his first hit of the summer on June 14 with eight doubles and 26 RBI. He was 0-for-16 in his first nine games of the season and is now batting .340 on the year.
Austin Bodrato – Pompano Beach Clippers – South Florida Collegiate Baseball League
Bodrato is batting .391 over the last six games. He went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI on July 10. It was the first game of a doubleheader, as he went 2-for-2 with three runs, a RBI and four walks in the second game. Bodrato went 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs on Monday. He’s batting .316 this summer with two doubles, 15 RBI and 14 runs.
About USF Baseball
The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and followed that success with a 42-19 record and second NCAA regional trip in three years in 2017. The Bulls continued the success under first-year head coach Billy Mohl in 2018, reaching 36 wins and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since 2012, while being ranked in multiple polls for the final two months. USF earned its third NCAA Regional berth in the last four seasons and had six all-conference selections in 2018. The team had four players drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program’s fourth first rounder, Shane McClanahan. Junior third baseman David Villar was taken in the 11th round after tallying 24 doubles and hitting better than .370, being named first team all-conference and an All-American. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 13 NCAA appearances.
