BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball schedule for 2021-22 has been announced, on Thursday by head coach Dusty May. Fans will have the opportunity to see the Owls – counting a preseason exhibition – 20 times on Abessinio Court at FAU Arena, including an early home date versus Miami.
After an exhibition hosting Lynn on Nov. 2, the regular season opener will be on the road. The Owls will head west to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico on Wednesday, Nov. 10, the first matchup against the Lobos in program history. FAU will then embark on a nine-game homestand, spanning nearly a month’s time.
The squad’s home opener is against Warner on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. Three days later, Nov. 16, is a 7 p.m. home matchup vs. Miami. That night will mark the first time the Owls have hosted the Hurricanes in Boca Raton in nearly 20 years (since defeating UM on Dec. 3, 2002, 74-73, in overtime).
“We are thrilled to have a school-record 19 home games this upcoming regular season, which we know means a great deal to our students, fans, and alumni,” said May. “There is already a great deal of excitement surrounding our home game vs. the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday, Nov. 16. We know there will be a significant buzz in the arena that night and we look forward to our fans helping make The Burrow a special atmosphere for us.”
After the UM matchup is a holiday tournament the following weekend, featuring FAU, UT Martin, North Dakota and Troy. The home stretch wraps with dates against James Madison (Nov. 28), Stetson (Dec. 1), North Florida (Dec. 5) and Palm Beach Atlantic (Dec. 8). Two of the final three non-conference tilts will be on the road – at VCU (Dec. 15) and High Point (Dec. 21) – sandwiched around Florida Tech at home, Dec. 17.
“Overall, we are extremely excited about the non-conference schedule that we have put together,” May noted. “Our team will be challenged and ultimately prepared for a very competitive Conference USA season.”
C-USA play starts with two home games, Dec. 30 versus Charlotte, and New Year’s Day against Old Dominion. Other conference opponents making their way to Boca Raton will be WKU, Marshall, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, North Texas and Middle Tennessee.
“Our conference home schedule features last season’s C-USA East Champion Western Kentucky, C-USA West Champion Louisiana Tech as well as C-USA Tournament Champion North Texas, making for an ultra-competitive home schedule for our fans to enjoy,” added May.
The regular season concludes with two league contests, both against FIU, on the road first (March 3), followed by Senior Day at home (March 5). The 2022 C-USA Championship will be held in Frisco, Texas, March 8-12. For the full 2021-22 FAU schedule, click HERE.
