The Mississippi State transfer finished tied fourth all-time in career scoring for the Bulldogs.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators kicker Jace Christmann was named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Wednesday.
The transfer from Mississippi State solidified himself as one of the best in program history as he became the programs career leader in kicking points, which is tied for fourth all-time in MSU’s career scoring charts at 223. Owning the school record with 95 straight PATs converted, Christmann also ranks seventh among active FBS kickers with a career 80 percent accuracy with more than two seasons.
The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
The 30th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet at West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on December 6th.
