No. 3 NSU Tennis Finishes SSC Runner-Up at Conference Championships

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – For the second consecutive time in as many appearances, the No. 3 Nova Southeastern women’s tennis team (9-2) finishes as the Sunshine State Conference Runner-up after falling to No. 2 Barry (10-0) in the championship final in Miami Shores, 4-0. For the first time since the 2017 season, the tournament was hosted on campus sites, making the Sharks the true road team.

DOUBLES

  • For only the second time in the season, also previously to Barry in the regular season, the Sharks dropped the doubles point. However, it was a close call.
  • With Barry winning court two, the Sharks tandem of Karolina Snita and Diane Follin-Arbelet had pulled ahead of Kim Moosbacher and Daniela Farfan on court three (5-4), and Jil Engelmann and Julie Razafindranaly broke out of a 4-4 tie with Daniela Obando and Isabella Lowrey to grab the 6-4 win. 

SINGLES

  • On court five, Follin-Arbelet took the first set win, 6-3, over Razafindranaly and was leading 4-3 at the clinch point.
  • After a very close first-set lossChantal Nosievici was leading Xiyao Wang, 3-1 in the second set on four.
  • On court three, No. 30 Madeline Bosnjak defeated No. 19 Daniela Obando, 6-0, 6-0.
  • On court one, No. 3 Deniz Khazan defeated No. 10 Natalie Espinal, 6-2, 6-4.
  • On six, Daniela Farfan defeated Celia Montero Estevan, 6-2, 6-4.
  • Also unfinished at clinch, No. 17 Karolina Snita fell to No. 21 Jil Engelmann in the first set, 6-1, and led in the second, 5-4.

“Our ladies fought hard and that’s all I ever ask. There was some serious momentum changes happening on three of the courts that didn’t finish. This match will only make us more determined. We hope to get another chance at them on a neutral site.”

UP NEXT
With the regular season and the SSC Championships in the books, the Sharks now await the selections for the NCAA South Region Championships, scheduled for May 7-11 in Pensacola at West Florida’s Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 on NCAA.com. The Sharks are currently ranked second in the South Region behind only Barry.
