UF’s 24 selections led Division I and is the most in a single season since at least 2010.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida women’s swimming and diving program placed 24 individuals on the College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-America list for the 2019-20 season, the most amongst Division I teams.
Florida’s 24 selections are also the most in a single season since at least 2010. Last year, UF had 17 swimmers and divers earn the accolade. This sits as the team’s third academic program record set this year, as the team accumulated a program high 3.80 GPA this spring and placed a program-best 27 Gators on the 2019-20 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll.
To earn this individual honor, swimmers and divers must have recorded at least a 3.50 GPA or higher (cumulative or semester). First Team honorees were invited to participate at this year’s NCAA Championships, while members of the Second Team achieved an individual B-cut time throughout the season, or competed at their respective diving zones qualification meet.
Taylor Ault, Emma Ball, Talia Bates, Leah Braswell, Sherridon Dressel, Savanna Faulconer, Kelly Fertel, Bella Garofalo, Kathleen Golding, Gabby Hillis, Ashley McCool, Nikki Miller and Vanessa Pearl all earned First Team honors after being selected to participate in this year’s NCAA Championships.
Georgia Darwent, Tori Bindi, Celi Guzman, Jillian Hatch, Tylor Mathieu, Allie Piccirillo and Rosie Zavaros picked up a Second Team distinction after recording a B-cut throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
Four divers- Brooke Madden, Abigail Howell, Lauren Snider, Emma Whitner- joined them on the Second Team after competing at the NCAA Diving Zones Championships on March 9-11.
The Gators finished the 2019-20 campaign by securing a runner-up finish at the SEC Championships for the second year in a row, falling short by just 28.5 points over the five days of competition in Auburn. The team would reel in seven medals and register 10 top-10 program swims and 28 personal-bests at the 2020 conference meet. During the regular season, the team posted the best dual meet record (8-1) since 2007-08, including starting off the season by winning their first eight duals.
