Women Divers Set to Compete at Diving Zones for NCAA Bids
Six Gators will look to qualify for the 2020 NCAA Championships with their scores in Athens on Monday-Wednesday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Six University of Florida women’s divers will look to punch their ticket to the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the NCAA Diving Zones on March 9-11 in Athens, Ga.
Abigail Howell, Brooke Madden, Ashley McCool, Elizabeth Perez, Lauren Snider and Emma Whitner will all compete as they look to join 12 Florida swimmers at NCAA’s right back at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens on March 18-21.
UF will be competing with 147 divers from other schools in Zone B for just seven qualifying spots on the 1-meter and 3-meter board, in addition to eight spots on the platform.
In all three events, the top-18 preliminary scores will advance to the final round. Scores from both rounds will be combined to determine each individual’s overall finish.
After qualifying for one event at Zones, a diver only needs to post a top-12 finish to earn a qualification in that respective event at NCAA’s.

2019-20 Women’s Diving Review
At SEC’s, the group of Perez, Whitner, McCool and Madden posted the most points of any team at the conference meet. UF produced 228 points through three events, almost doubling their closest competitor. Additionally, Perez (3-meter) and Whitner (platform) both took home their first career medal with their second-place finishes in their respective events.
After winning a team-high 11 events during the regular season, two-time 2019 SEC Diver of the Week McCool posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in her first career SEC meet, including a new top 1-meter score as a Gator of 317.60. She has made an appearance at the NCAA meet in her first two collegiate seasons at Arizona State.
Madden heads into her final Diving Zone as a three-time NCAA qualifier, tallying three All-American nods throughout her collegiate career. During the regular season, the senior competed in her first dual of the season on Senior Day against Auburn, sweeping both diving events en route to her first SEC accolade of the season.
Howell and Snider head into their first postseason action in Athens. During the regular season, Howell registered a new lifetime-best 3-meter score of 301.35 versus Auburn on Senior Day. Snider posted season-best tallies of 249.45 (1-meter) and 293.55 (3-meter), all within 10 points of her top collegiate scores.
