14 FAU Teams Achieve Perfect APR Scores for 2017-18

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Florida Atlantic University has achieved a record number of teams with perfect Academic Progress Rates (APR). According to the NCAA Division I Institutional Report, FAU had 14 out of 19 teams earn a 1,000 score on the APR in 2017-18.

“FAU athletics has established a culture that fosters academic achievement and excellence,” said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Student Development, Eric Coleman. “Fourteen teams earning a perfect APR score is a tremendous accomplishment and it illustrates that our student-athletes are not only thriving in the classroom, they are being retained at FAU and are productive members in our campus community.”

Since 2013-14, FAU has continued to produce more teams with perfect scores. Last year, the Owls had 10 teams achieve the feat and that was up from eight in 2015-16.

The 2017-18 teams that tallied a perfect score are baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, beach volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

APR was implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in NCAA Division I. The APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic team.
