Sophomore is sixth Hurricane to earn an ACC weekly distinction
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Colbie Young of the University of Miami football team is the ACC Receiver of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
The sophomore totaled six catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Duke at Hard Rock Stadium. The yardage total and touchdown count were both the highest marks by a Hurricane this season.
Young, who hails from Binghamton, N.Y., recorded the most yards by a Miami receiver since Charleston Rambo on Nov. 6, 2021, versus Georgia Tech. Young also became the first Hurricane since Rambo with back-to-back 100-yard receiving outings since Rambo on Nov. 20 and No. 27, 2021, against Virginia Tech and at Duke, respectively.
A 6-foot-5, 215-pounder, Rambo is the first Miami player to post 100-plus yards and a touchdown in consecutive games since Mike Harley, Jr., did so on Oct. 24, 2020, and Nov. 6, 2020, against Virginia and at NC State, respectively.
One of Young’s two scores Saturday was a 71-yarder that is the longest play from scrimmage for Miami this season and the top mark since an 83-yarder by Cam’Ron Harris on Sept. 25, 2021, versus Central Connecticut State. The last time a Miami player had a play of 70-plus yards against an FBS foe was Dec. 12, 2020, when Brevin Jordan had a 76-yard grab against North Carolina.
Young is the sixth Hurricane to receive ACC Player of the Week plaudits this season. He follows Lou Hedley (Specialist) and Akheem Mesidor (Defensive Lineman) on Oct. 17, Tyler Van Dyke (Quarterback) on Oct. 10, Andres Borregales (Specialist) on Sept. 12 and Jalen Rivers (Offensive Lineman) on Sept. 6.
