WTEN | No. 27 Owls Earn No. 1 Seed

4/15/2025 | No. 27 Women’s Tennis
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 27 Florida Atlantic women’s tennis team concluded the 2024-25 regular season as the nation’s only undefeated team and the only FAU team in any sport to power through the regular season without a loss. That resume is strong enough to rank No. 27 in the latest ITA national poll and to capture the No. 1 seed in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Championship.
The Owls, who received one of three byes to the quarterfinal round, will begin tournament play on Friday, April 18 against the winner of Thursday’s first-round match between No. 9 UAB and No. 8 UTSA. While the No. 1 seed FAU defeated five AAC members in 2025, they did not face UAB or UTSA in regular season action. Florida Atlantic’s all-time series with UAB stands at 1-1 with the Owls defeating UAB 4-2 in last year’s AAC first round action on April 18, 2024. Should UTSA advance to the quarterfinals, it would be the first meeting between the two schools despite being in the same conferences since 2013-14.
The winner of the women’s championship will earn The American’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. The No. 1 seed has won the team championship five times in the tournament’s 10-year history (Tulsa in 2016, UCF in 2019 and 2021, SMU in 2022 and 2024). The championship has been won by a No. 1 seed, a No. 2 seed, two No. 3 seeds, a No. 4 seed and a No. 7 seed.
Complete coverage of The American Tennis Championships, including live scoring of each match, can be found on the conference’s Championship Central site. Live coverage of Sunday’s championship final will be available on ESPN+ with Dorian Craft, Jessica Green and Breanna Sorensen calling the action.
LEADING THE OWLS
Three Owls have tallied double-digit wins with sophomore Malwina Rowinska recording a 13-1 record during the dual season and a 14-4 record overall. Rowinska has dominated court four, dropping just one match to the only opponent that has forced a third set. Senior Lexi Silna completed her final regular season as an Owl with an 11-0 record and a 12-0 record during 2024-25. She has clinched the match several times this season, including their most recent win over in-state foe FIU. It was the first time FAU has defeated the No. 61 team from the south since 2003. Sophomore Panna Bartha, a 2024 All-AAC honoree and AAC Freshman of the Year, continues with great play. Bartha holds a dual match record of 10-3, primarily playing court two but has moved to court one in recent weeks.
NEXT UP
The Owls will next travel to the American Athletic Conference Championship slated for Thursday through Sunday, April 17-20 on the campus of the University of Memphis.
