WTEN: Hurricanes Fall to No. 12 NC State, 4-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (9-10, 4-6) fell 4-1 to the No. 12 NC State Wolfpack (13-5, 8-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for the final home match of the season.

The Hurricanes fell short of the doubles point and only earned one singles court to drop the match.

Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova took court two 6-2 over Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Aely Arai, but Miami bounced back with a 7-5 win from Alexa Noel and Raquel Gonzalez against No. 2 Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo at the top court. Maria Vargas and Daria Volosova battled back on court three but ultimately fell 7-5 to Kristina Paskauskas and Michaela Laki.

Court one in singles finished first when NC State’s No.23 Laki retired the match, securing No. 39 Noel the win in her last match at the Schiff. NC State then took three courts as Paskauskas took court six over Volosova, 6-0, 6-1, Ogunwale fell 3-6, 2-6 to Zampardo and Slama defeated Vargas, 6-2, 6-2, on court five.

The Hurricanes will travel to play at North Carolina and Duke on April 12 and 13, respectively.
