8/29/2024 | Women’s Soccer | Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Florida Atlantic’s women’s soccer team fell to Alabama on Thursday evening in the Alabama Soccer Stadium. The Owls ended the night with an 8-2 loss against the Crimson Tide. Florida Atlantic moves to 0-3-2 on the season after the matchup. For FAU, the starting lineup saw a slight change as senior Drew Dempsey registered her second start of the season. Florida Atlantic began the first half with a shot on goal by junior Michelle Horan within the first five minutes of the match. In the first half, both teams were tied in shots on goal at two apiece. Alabama took the lead in the 17th minute of the match, but that did not discourage the Owls, as Horan scored the equalizer less than a minute later to put Florida Atlantic on the board. In the 22nd minute, the Crimson Tide regained the lead to end the first half with a 2-1 score. The defense for Florida Atlantic did a tremendous job at limiting the shots for Alabama within the first 45 minutes of the night. In the second half, Alabama scored early to extend their lead. The Crimson Tide were up 8-1 when Dempsey scored her first goal of the season to add another on the board for Florida Atlantic. She now has eight career goals. Goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez registered four saves on the evening to improve to 119 career saves as an Owl. UP NEXT The Owls will return to Boca Raton to play at their home stadium on Sunday, Sept. 1 against the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin.
