Women’s Tennis – No. 2 NSU Dominates Day One at ITA South Regionals

LAKELAND, Fla. – The second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Tennis team began their 2023-24 season at the ITA South Regional Championship on Friday. NSU went 9-0 across the doubles and singles action.  

How it Happened
DOUBLES 

Natalie Espinal and Freya Davies began the day with a dominant 8-0 win over Emma Pager and Romina Kroemer from Spring Hill.  

Lexie Weir and Lian Benedejcic were victorious against Evelyn Altmaier and Viktoriia Fedorova from Valdosta State, winning 8-2. 

SINGLES 

Natalie Espinal defeated Polina Ligay (Rollins), [6-2, 6-3] 

Freya Davies earned a singles win over Jessica Hadipoernomo (Embry-Riddle) [3-6, 6(14)-4(12)] 

Lian Benedejcic beat Alina Hoermann (Palm Beach Atlantic), [6-0, 6-1]) and Julie Ball (Tampa), [6-3, 6-0] 

Lexie Weir was victorious over Lieselotte Hartlohner (Montevallo), [6-2, 6-3] and later added a [7-2, 2(10)-6(5)] win over Lavinia Lancellotti (Saint Leo) 

Freya Davies earned a victory over Ana Mata (Mississippi College), [6-3, 6-0] 

Coach's Corner

Head Coach Doug Neagle – “This tournament is always a tough test for all players. Our girls competed through the heat and came through with some good wins. We have a lot of new faces this year and it’s nice to see this group coming together as a team.”
